This beginning Bellydance class will focus on vocabulary and technique, and incorporate somatic tools to engage your whole being in the dance. Classes will include a gentle warm up and exercises related to the Bellydance movements learned in class, technique and “drills”, basic phrases, and movement exploration/improvisation. Somatic exercises are informed by Body Mind Centering (BMC), Laban/Bartenieff fundamentals (LBF) and other creative, expressive tools. No previous dance experience is necessary. Dress comfortably (exercise or dance pants preferred, as we may be getting on the floor) in clothing that will allow you to move freely. Dance shoes optional, no dance belts required.
